Met Eireann updated forecast as day Ireland's weather to take freezing turn pinpointed

Ireland's weather is set to take a wintry turn this week with temperatures as low as -2C by Thursday.

Met Eireann are forecasting much colder conditions for the second half of next week as air from the North moves in.

While weather expert Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather is predicting the possibility of wintry showers.

The forecaster said on Twitter: "Weather models continue to show much colder air towards the end of next week. A plunge of cold coming down from the North with risk of wintry showers on high ground."

And Met Eireann agree with the prediction and Thursday is set to be the day when the turn is really felt.

The forecaster said: "There is some uncertainty but current indications suggest that Thursday will be a cold day with showers of rain or hail, some showers prolonged. Highest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees with light southwest winds.

"Becoming cold Thursday night with clear spells and showers, and a continued risk of hail. Minimum temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees with frost forming in light northwest winds."

There will be some cold nights before Thursday as well however with temperatures as low as 1C and 2C on Tuesday and Wednesday.
