Met Eireann's updated weekend forecast with wintry chill but mixed weather in parts

Following a tumultuous few days on the weather front, Met Eireann has stated that the wet and windy conditions are expected over the weekend with frost in places too.

In a very brief and concise update, they said that Friday night is expected to be "wet and windy tonight. Breezy tomorrow with sunny spells and showers, a touch of frost on Saturday night. Cloudier on Sunday with less of a breeze, rain in parts of Ulster."

For those looking for a more in-depth forecast, today is set to be mainly cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle in the west gradually extending eastwards. A heavier spell of rain will move into the Atlantic counties this evening.

Friday night will see a wet and breezy start with rain becoming widespread, bringing some heavy falls and spot flooding. The rain will gradually move eastwards as it turns to scattered showers overnight.

As for Saturday, conditions are set to improve with fresh and sunny spells expected. Dry for the most part with scattered showers in the morning becoming more isolated by afternoon.

While Saturday night will be dry, it's also set to be cold too with long clear spells in the midlands and east leading to frost in places. However, there may be some scattered showers with the risk of a thundery burst in the northwest.

Moving into Sunday and showers of rain and drizzle will form over Ulster and north Connacht, which may become more frequent at times. Elsewhere, it's set to be mostly cloudy elsewhere with just a few sunny spells.

This mixed weather looks set to continue into Sunday night where some clear spells will lead to a spot of ground frost in places. However, it will stay cloudier over Ulster where showery rain will continue.
