The winter chill is definitely here because, at present, there are a variety of different weather warnings in place throughout Ireland.
A status yellow weather warning for low temperature and ice is set to come into effect for Ireland later tonight which states: "Cold tonight with minimum temperatures of zero to minus 4 degrees. Ice forming on untreated surfaces."
This warning is valid from 5pm on Thursday until 11am on Friday.
Elsewhere, the UK Met Office has issued a status yellow ice warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry.
Icy stretches are expected on Thursday afternoon and through Friday morning.
The snowy and chilly conditions will be prevalent throughout the next few days with Met Eireann stating that temperatures will drop as low as -7 in some places.
This afternoon is set to see scattered and wintry showers in the north and west. A cold day is on the horizon with the highest temperatures ranging between just 1 to 5 degrees. Lying snow will very gradually melt today, leading to icy conditions as frost sets in very quickly after nightfall.
The temperatures will drop again tonight with lows of -4 to -1 degrees and widespread frost and ice set to arrice. Many areas will be dry and clear but there will be a few wintry showers in the north and a few hail or snow showers may drift in to affect some coastal areas. in a moderate northerly breeze.
As the weekend approaches, it's set to get even colder because there's going to be widespread frost and ice to start Friday.
There'll be some sunny spells but a few wintry showers will affect north Connacht, Ulster and the coastal parts of Leinster.
