Met Eireann's lovely weekend forecast as high pressure to bring much needed dry spell

Following a series of weather warnings and weeks of dour conditions, the sunshine will finally be arriving in Ireland this weekend with "good sunny spells" expected.

However, it won't be continuous sunshine though but after the miserable wind and rain that the country has endured, things are definitely looking up for the next three days.

Here's what's in store.

Friday evening

Today will see sunny spells and mostly dry conditions, however, it will be cloudier in parts of the south and west with isolated showers possible in the southwest.

Sadly, for those living on the west coast, some outbreaks of rain and drizzle may arrive this evening. Thankfully, it 's set to be relatively warm with temperatures ranging from 10 to 12 degrees.

Friday night

The rain and drizzle will remain on the Atlantic coast before it moves eastwards overnight. However, any rainfall will only be in patches.

Saturday morning and afternoon

Saturday morning will see a mix of cloud and bright conditions with sunny spells.

There will be patchy light rain or showers in places, but the amounts will be small. If you're living in the northwest, you're in luck because the best of the sunshine will be in those areas.

Saturday night

A spell of high pressure will bring a lot of dry and calm weather. There will be a mix of cloud and some sunny spells, with some light rain or drizzle at times.

The mercury will drop in some places with the temperatures varying between 0 to 5 degrees with some slight frost in places. Overnight patches of mist and fog will form ins some places, with fog becoming dense in places towards dawn.

Sunday morning and afternoon

The overnight mist and fog patches will be slow to clear on Sunday morning but sunny spells will develop in most places by the afternoon.

Sunday night

Much like the majority of the weekend, Sunday night will be dry with clear spells. However, the mist and fog will return with a few patches of dense fog emeerging towards dawn.
