Met Eireann's grim five-day forecast: Snow, thunderstorms and drop to -3C

With a weather advisory in place for Ireland and two separate status yellow warnings in place, a bad few days are in store.

A snow/ice warning is in effect for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Antrim, Tyrone, Derry.

While the next few days will see the mercury drop around the country.

On that note, here's what's in store for the next five days with frost, ice, and some wintry showers on the way.

Thursday night

Tonight is set to be very cold with widespread frost and some icy stretches. The majority of the country will be dry but there's set to be further wintry showers on the west coast, along with isolated thunderstorms. Keep warm because lowest temperatures of 0 to minus 2 degrees are expected later.

Friday

A frosty start to the morning with some icy stretches on untreated surfaces. The conditions aren't set to improve with a cold and windy day expected. Sunny spells and some wintry showers are on the horizon though.

The conditions will deteriorate as the evening comes with showers becoming more widespread during the afternoon and evening, possibly merging to longer spells of rain in places with some wintry falls possible.

Friday night will bring scattered showers, some possibly wintry, especially in the north and east. Highest temperatures of just 3 to 7 degrees with strong and gusty gales developing at sea.

Saturday

The scattered showers in coastal areas will continue but elsewhere, dry and bright conditions are expected. Early morning breezes and high winds will cool off during the day. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees with an added chill factor.

The east coast will see some lingering showers, but most areas will stay dry with clear skies. The temperature is set to drop with the mercury fluctuating between -3 to +2 degrees. A widespread sharp frost will be noticeable with local mist and fog too.

Sunday

The rain is set to ease up on Sunday morning with a largely dry day on the forecast.

Sunny spells in the morning will give way to cloudier conditions in the afternoon. However, outbreaks of rain will extend from the southwest by evening. Highest temperatures of only 3 to 6 degrees with another cold day on the horizon.

On Sunday evening, there's set to be heavy rain in the south and west but clearer spells elsewhere.

The cold conditions will continue with the risk of frost on inland areas. Sadly, another cold night is expected with lows of 0 to 4 degrees in some areas.

Monday

A wet start to the day for those living on the west coast which will linger in the south until late afternoon.

Clearer spells are expected to develop elsewhere with dry conditions set to arrive.

Monday night is set to be a cool day with highs of 3 to 6 degrees in Munster and south Leinster.
