Met Eireann's forecast is bound to cheer Irish people up after a period of warnings

With all current reports indicating that lockdown is set to be extended until April, a spell of decent weather certainly wouldn't go amiss.

Thankfully, it appears that those 5km walks over the weekend will be dry because a "more settled spell of weather" is expected.

Over the last few days, a litany of status yellow and orange warnings for both wind and rain have been issued, so this change of conditions is bound to be very welcome.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Met Eireann has said: "Current indications are for a more settled spell of weather for the weekend with high pressure becoming established to the south. Western and northwestern areas will remain at risk from the Atlantic with patchy rain or showers possible, but it should stay drier further south and east."

While the weekend looks set to bring some good conditions, that's still some time away yet and sadly, the next few days aren't looking great.

With weather warnings in place for the entire country, Tuesday will be wet and windy with outbreaks of rain across the country. There's a risk of localised flooding in the south and southeast too.

The rain is set to be heaviest in the east and south but it will become patchier overnight, with scattered showers developing in the west and north.

Wednesday will see a wet morning in the east and south but it is expected to become drier from the west by afternoon.

Showers will persist in the west throughout Wednesday evening, but it will be drier elsewhere with long clear spells.

Thursday is shaping up to be a mixed bag with sunny spells and showers expected. Some of the showers could be heavy with a risk of hail too.

Thankfully, conditions will improve on Thursday night with long clear spells. However, a few light showers may affect the northwest early on.

As the weekend approaches, things are looking up because Friday will be mainly dry and bright with long spells of sunshine, just a few light showers in the west and northwest/
