Met Eireann's 30-day forecast as winter chill confirmed - but will it snow?

Met Eireann's long-range forecast for November shows that harsh winter conditions have most definitely arrived in Ireland.

Heavy rainfall along with a drop in temperatures and the first frost of the year will mean you can no longer leave the house without a coat.

Plenty of rainfall and even some hail showers mean "rainfall warnings cannot be ruled out."

Here's a look at what to expect in the coming weeks.

Monday, November 1st – Sunday, November 7th

There will be a slightly drier than normal start to November, with temperatures closer to average than they have been over the past few weeks.

This week, Ireland will lie in a predominantly north to northeast airflow that will introduce a cooler air mass over the country, meaning temperatures will drop.

Although the northerly airflow will introduce wet conditions, rainfall in total will generally be well below average. However, there will be heavy rain showers throughout the week.

Northern coasts will be the exception as more frequent showers will lead to rainfall totals closer to average or slightly above.

The cooler conditions will increase the chance of overnight temperatures falling close to freezing, with the potential for the first widespread frost of the season.

Some isolated hail showers will also spread across the country as temperatures fall.

Monday, November 8th – Sunday, November 14th

Conditions will take a more unsettled turn for this period, as high pressure drifts to the south of Ireland and a westerly airflow becomes established over the country.

This westerly airflow will steer frontal systems across Ireland at times through the week, which will bring wetter and milder conditions.

Temperatures will be slightly above average across the country. However, total rainfall will also be higher than average across the country, leading to a wet week.

While hazardous weather is not currently indicated for this week, slightly wetter conditions mean that rainfall warnings cannot be ruled out.

Monday, November 15th – Sunday, November 21st

Low pressure will remain dominant into the second half of November.

This will keep conditions generally unsettled, with spells of rain spreading from the Atlantic. As a result, conditions will be wetter than normal across the country.

Things will turn colder as temperatures will be around average during daytime and in the single figures and nighttime temperatures falling close to freezing.

There is the potential for frost in places by night, but otherwise, hazardous weather is not indicated.

Monday, November 22nd – Sunday, November 28th

Conditions will be drier overall, but the wet weather doesn't seem to be going anywhere as showers continue.

As a result, rainfall totals will generally be close to normal. Temperatures will remain around normal also, with cool days and cold nights.
