Met Eireann's 24-hour forecast shows snow in one area after Storm Barra passes

Parts of the country will see snow today as freezing conditions bite after the powerful Storm Barra passes.

The Northern half of the country look set for some snow - Met Eireann had forecast "prolonged showers" but are now expecting the odd flurry in higher areas.

The winds wont ease until late on Wednesday with a status yellow wind and rain warning still in place until 6pm tonight.

Donegal is also under a status orange weather warning until 2pm today.

Here is what Met Eireann are expecting in the next 24 hours.

Wednesday - day time

Storm Barra will continue to bring very windy conditions on Wednesday with further severe or damaging gusts. Outbreaks of rain will mainly affecting the northern half of the country, possibly turning to sleet and snow for a time in places. Drier and brighter across the south and southwest with sunny spells and scattered showers. Feeling cold with highest temperatures of just 4 to 7 degrees Celsius. Strong to gale force west to northwest winds will only gradually begin to moderate later today.

Wednesday - night

Any lingering rain will soon clear the northeast tonight. Generally dry, calm and clear for a time with some frost and possible ice. Later tonight, outbreaks of rain will move in from the west, along with low cloud, hill and coastal fog. Lowest 0 to 3 degrees Celsius.
