Met Eireann predicts highs of 17 degrees this week with beach weather expected

While there are still a few more weeks to go until outdoor dining and drinking returns, the early indications suggest that the weather conditions won't be terrible.

After a recent spell of weather warnings, this week is set to be a bit inconsistent with some rain and showers at times but also good dry spells too. Thankfully, temperatures will also gradually increase with Thursday and Friday set to reach 17 degrees.

Elsewhere, renowned weather expert Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has said: "Sunday could a day for the beach. Looks like some decent heat but a little far out yet and we have seen how things can go downhill. The butchers might want to get the burgers planned though."

Here's how the remainder of the week is shaping up...

Tuesday morning and afternoon

There's set to be rain in the southwest and some western counties that will spread across Munster, heavy at times in the southwest. The rain will become lighter and isolated to the southwest as the afternoon develops.

Elsewhere, this afternoon will be dry in many areas with well-scattered showers and long spells of sunshine. Highest temperatures will range between 13 to 16 degrees, a little cooler in Munster.

Wednesday morning and afternoon

Dry in many areas with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. In Munster, it's shaping up to be mostly cloudy with light patchy rain in the southwest continuing until the evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees.

Dry for most areas with just the odd shower, but rain will linger in parts of the southwest through the night. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees with long clear spells.

Wednesday morning and afternoon

It's expected to be a mainly dry day with spells of patchy rain in the southwest gradually clearing. Light showers will occur in the northwest. There will be some good sunny spells too, the best of which will be in the morning and evening. The temperatures will increase and range between 13 to 16 degrees.

Wednesday night

The cloud will thicken in the southwest ahead of some further light rain developing later in the night. Elsewhere, it will be dry with good clear spells.

Thursday morning and afternoon

At present, there's some uncertainty in the forecast but Met Eireann has said, "current indications suggest that it will be a dry and bright to start for much of Ulster and Leinster.

"However, rain and cloud in Connacht and Munster will gradually extend over the country through the day. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh, southeasterly winds."

Thursday night

The rain will move northeastwards with dry and clear conditions moving in from the Atlantic. Stay warm because it's going to be chilly too with the lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees.

Friday morning and afternoon

The rain will clear from much of the country during the morning, but it could linger on the east coast for much of the day.

Thankfully, a warm day is expected with the mercury ranging between 14 and 17 degrees. Friday will be mainly mostly dry with the lowest temperatures dropping between 4 to 8 degrees.
