Met Eireann predicts freezing -3C temperatures as Ireland issued fresh warning

Temperatures will drop as low as -3C this weekend as dense fog gets set to plague the country.

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow warning for fog, which is set to become prominent nationwide from midnight.

A spokesman for the national forecaster said: "Outbreaks of rain clearing from inland counties this morning, becoming mainly dry with sunny spells developing.

"However, showery rain in western coastal counties and scattered showers in eastern coastal counties will continue for much of the day.

"Cool with afternoon temperatures of just 5C to 7C, and becoming cold early in the evening. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, strong for a time in coastal areas, will ease later.

"Very cold and mainly dry tonight with clear spells. However, isolated showers will continue in eastern and western coastal counties.

"Lowest temperatures of -3C to +2C, coldest over the northern half of the country. A widespread frost will develop overnight and dense fog will form in many areas in light northerly or variable breezes."

Sunday looks set to be another freezing day, with yet more fog expected to hit parts of the country.

"A cold and frosty start tomorrow with dense fog lingering through the day, though there will be occasional bright spells", the forecaster said.

"A largely dry day with isolated showers along eastern, western and northern coasts. Highest temperatures of 2C to 5C generally with light variable breezes, but a degree or two milder near coasts.

"Later in the evening, rain will move into the west and southwest from the Atlantic."

The rest of the week looks set to remain very cold, but at least sunny spells are expected to be seen nationwide.
