Met Éireann issues weather warning for just one county with atrocious conditions to hit within hours

Met Eireann has pinpointed one county for atrocious weather conditions today and issued a Status Yellow warning.

The warning for severe rain and flooding has been issued for Kerry and will cover a period of six hours when Met Éireann says awful conditions will grip the county.

They say it will be "wet and windy with localised flooding" for the duration of the warning with "highest accumulations in mountainous regions."

Met Eireann published the warning for the Kingdom on Tuesday morning and it will come into force at 2pm today. It will be lifted at 8pm on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a small craft warning is in place on all Irish coasts from 9am on Tuesday to midnight. It warns of strong southerly winds reaching fore 6 or higher.

In its general forecast for the next couple of days, Met Eireann says it will be "unsettled through the rest of the week and into the weekend with sunshine and scattered showers." They also predict strong winds at times too.

For Tuesday, they say there will be "sunny intervals for a time in the east and northeast, however, rain in the west and southwest will gradually extend countrywide this afternoon and evening, with some very heavy falls in west Connacht and southwest Munster leading to spot flooding.

"Becoming windy later too, with south to southwest winds increasing fresh to strong and gusty. Highs of 10 to 13 degrees."

They added: "Wednesday will start out mostly dry with sunny spells with just well scattered showers mainly affecting Atlantic coastal counties.

"Becoming rather windy with scattered blustery showers becoming widespread during the afternoon. Some of the showers will be heavy, with a chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms. Highs of 9 to 12 degrees in a moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly wind, strong near the coast."
