Met Eireann issues weather advisory as it warns of high tides, strong winds and heavy rain

Three counties have been hit with a weather advisory as strong winds and heavy rain are due to batter parts of Ireland.

Met Eireann has issued the alert as it warned of high tides which are set to wreak havoc along the south coast.

The advisory will be valid for Cork, Waterford and Wexford from 3am until 8pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman said: "A combination of high tides, together with appreciable, but generally sub-warning levels of wind and rain, will produce localised impacts along the south coast during Tuesday."

The national forecaster said Tuesday will be wet and windy, with gale force gusts expected to hit the southeast.

It will become brighter in the late afternoon, following widespread rain in the morning. Highs will range from 8C to 11C.

A Met Eireann spokesman said: "Rain over much of Munster and Leinster in the early morning will continue to extend to all areas. The rain heavy in places.

"Brighter, more showery weather will follow later in the afternoon.

"A windy day with fresh to strong and gusty easterly winds veering south to southeast as the rain clears, with gales along the south and southwest coasts. Top temperatures of 8C to 11C."
