Met Eireann has issued a status yellow warning for Cork and Kerry as heavy rain gets set to arrive.
The two counties will be hit with heavy downpours and flooding, with the alert in force from 11am on Thursday until 5am on Friday.
The news comes after the national forecaster predicted a miserable end to 2021 nationwide.
Wednesday will remain dry for most of the afternoon, but rain will become widespread throughout the evening and continue overnight. Temperatures will vary between 10C and 13C.
Thursday morning will be mostly cloudy and mainly dry, but again, showers will return during the afternoon and spread northwards throughout the day. This spell will become heavy with localised flooding expected. Temperatures will remain between 11C and 13C. Persistent rain will remain overnight.
Friday, New Years Eve, will see rain clear northwards and will remain quite dry and mild, with highs of 15C. However, another band of heavy rain will emerge across the country that night.
Saturday, New Years Day, will see more persistent showers throughout the morning and afternoon. But temperatures will remain mild, reaching levels of 14C.
Sunday will be a brighter day compared to the rest of the week, but will see scattered showers along with temperatures of 11C.
