Met Eireann issues urgent warning to eight counties as vicious winds to blast Ireland

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow wind warning to eight counties, ahead of vicious gusts across the country over the weekend.

The national forecaster says affected areas – Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny, Carlow, Wicklow, Dublin, Meath and Louth – could face winds of up to 100km/h tomorrow afternoon.

The warning, issued this evening, is in place between 12pm and 6pm tomorrow.

It reads: "Through Saturday afternoon and early evening, southerly winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/hr with gusts of up to 100 km/hr."

It comes amid a miserable forecast across the country over the weekend, with Met Eireann forecasting rainy conditions and gusty stretches in several areas.
