Met Eireann issues urgent 10-hour weather warning for 13 counties as miserable conditions hit

A status yellow weather alert has been issued for 13 counties with parts of the country set to be draped in fog this week.

Despite sunny spells and climbing temperatures gracing the country Met Eireann has warned that parts of the country will be hit with dense fog in the late hours of Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The national forecaster has issued a fog alert for counties Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo warning that the weather will lead to dangerous driving conditions.

The warning will take effect from midnight on Monday and is in place until 10am on Tuesday.

Despite the warning, the country is in for some more favourable Spring weather this week with temperatures set to hit as high as 12C this week.

However, the sunny spells won't be as common as last week with dull skies expected across the country.

A forecaster said: "Dry on Tuesday with mist and fog in many places to start, clearing slowly. Long sunny spells developing through the afternoon in most areas, but remaining a little cloudier in the north.

"Highs of 7 to 12 degrees, coolest in Ulster and in eastern counties, in a light easterly breeze, fresh at times on southern coasts.

"Some showers in Leinster and east Munster on Wednesday. Dry but quite cloudy elsewhere with occasional sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees, coolest for north and northeast counties, in light north to northeast breezes.

"Wednesday night will be dry and mostly cloudy with just occasional clear spells. However, there is a risk of patchy grass frost and fog. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees in light northerly breezes."
