Met Eireann issues thunderstorm warning for Dublin as 'hazardous' conditions to hit

Met Eireann has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Ireland.

The Status Yellow warning is in place for Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Meath, Wexford, and Wicklow. It will be valid from 1pm until 7pm this evening. A notice on the Met Eireann website reads: "Intense showers with scattered thunderstorms and possible hail.

"Possible impacts: Spot flooding and hazardous travelling conditions." The national forecaster has warned of a miserable day ahead as heavy showers will blast the capital. Temperatures will be around 13 to 14 degrees.

But there's some good news as the weekend is set to be a scorcher with the mercury hitting the highs of 20 degrees on Saturday. Here is the national outlook for the rest of the week:

Friday

"Dry with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees in mostly light northeast breezes.

Friday night

"Dry with long clear spells. Areas of mist and fog will develop in the near calm conditions. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees.

Saturday

"Any patchy mist and fog will soon clear on Saturday morning, leaving a mostly dry day with spells of hazy sunshine. Isolated showers are possible in the afternoon and cloud will thicken from the west during the evening. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in light, variable breezes.

"Saturday night will be cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle developing in the north and west. Winds will be generally light southwest or variable but will increase moderate to fresh near Atlantic coasts. Milder than recent nights with temperatures staying above 9 or 10 degrees.

Sunday

"Damp and cloudy to begin on Sunday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle giving way to sunshine and a few showers extending from the northwest. The last of the rain and drizzle will likely clear the east coast by evening.

"Much cooler than the preceding days with maximum temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees. Light to moderate southerly winds will turn northwesterly and increase moderate to fresh as the rain clears."
