Met Eireann issues positive weather update as temperatures set to soar

The cold snap which has covered Ireland in snow and dangerous black ice will end next week - with the sun ready to shine across the island.

In fact, there's a bit of a mini-heatwave on the way if the latest forecasts are anything to go by.

Temperatures plunged to a bitter -8C to start 2021 as polar winds battered the country and three separate snow/ice warnings were issued by Met Éireann.

But by the middle of next week, they'll be touching the low teens.

Met Éireann say that after a cold weekend, we'll see normal conditions start to settle in on Monday.

But naturally, it's going to be raining.

The forecasters say it'll be cloudy, with outbreaks of rain in the west and north spreading countrywide throughout the day.

Temperatures will reach highs of 7C to 10C.

It'll be similar on Tuesday, with heavy clouds and some showers in the morning, before the weather clears up as the day progresses.

Wednesday is when things will start to heat up a bit - though there's still a damp day in store.

The rain will gradually clear northeastwards later in the afternoon and evening - with temperatures set to hit 12C!

Though it's unclear at the moment what the rest of the week will look like, the national forecaster says that signs will be good for a dry day, with plenty of sunny spells nationwide.
