Met Eireann issues new thunderstorm warning for 23 counties as bad weather continues

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow thunderstorm warning for 23 counties again today as the bad weather continues.

Unlike on Saturday, Dublin and Wicklow have avoided the warning while Donegal is the only other county in the Republic not included.

The warning comes into effect from 11am this morning and will be in place until 9pm tonight.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Scattered thunderstorms through this afternoon and evening, bringing some heavy downpours with the risk of hail and spot flooding."

The unpleasant conditions are set to continue for the next week or so before a potential storm later next week.

The forecaster added: "Similar temperatures for the week ahead as of recent, with showers and dry spells during Tuesday and Wednesday. There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the track of a depression by midweek, which may bring a spell of wet and windy weather on Thursday."

Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said: "Heavy showers tomorrow again with risk of thunderstorms. Showers Monday to Wednesday but not as many. Huge uncertainty then around Thursday with location of low system uncertain but potential for storm so I’ll keep a close eye on that."
