Met Eireann issues new immediate weather warning for just one county

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow weather warning for Donegal which came into effect at 11am this morning.

The status yellow rainfall warning will be in place until 9pm this evening.

The forecaster states: "Heavy rainfall will lead to accumulations of up to 30mm, with higher accumulations in mountainous areas. This will bring a risk of some river and localised flooding."

A rainfall warning is already in place for Connacht, Longford, Louth, Westmeath, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan until 9pm.

The national forecast for today reads: "Wet, and breezy today with widespread outbreaks of rain, rain heavy and persistent over the northern half of the country with a risk of localised flooding. Highest temperatures generally of 9 to 11 degrees with a fresh southwest breeze that will be strong on coasts. Colder however over Ulster with highs of just 3 to 6 degrees in a light northeast breeze."
