Met Eireann issues freezing 18-hour weather warning for all of Ireland with more snow likely

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow low temperature warning to the whole country, with ice and freezing conditions set to hit nationwide overnight.

The national forecaster has given warning – which lasts from 5pm tonight until 11am tomorrow – amid a lengthy cold snap across Ireland.

And no county looks likely to escape the Baltic conditions – which forecasters warn could see temperatures plunge right down to -4C.

The warning reads: "Cold tonight with minimum temperatures of zero to minus 4 degrees. Ice forming on untreated surfaces."

The warning is also in place in the North, with Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry also in for icy stretches across this afternoon all the way through until tomorrow morning.

Icy patches are likely to form on untreated surfaces, and motorists are still being urged to be extremely careful on the roads after a number of crashes this week.

The warning marks an extension of a nationwide weather caution issued by Met Eireann yesterday.

Friday is due to bring "bitterly" cold conditions ahead of a weekend that could see a very slight uptick in temperatures.
