Met Eireann issues FIVE warnings for Ireland as gusts of up to 100km/hr to hit

Met Eireann has issued five Status Yellow weather warnings as powerful winds are set to batter Ireland.

The national forecaster said the country will be lashed by winds with mean speeds of up 65km/hr with gusts of up to 100 km/hr.

A wind warning is in place for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, and Wicklow until 11 pm tonight.

There is another yellow alert for Munster which will expire at 8 pm tonight.

Additionally, a separate wind warning is in place for Galway and Mayo which is valid until 10 pm tonight.

Another wind alert is valid for Donegal, Leitrim, and Sligo until 6 am tomorrow, and a warning for Cavan, Monaghan, Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Roscommon is in place until 5 am.

Here is what the forecast is looking like for the week:

Monday

"Monday will be a fresh and breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 10 or 11 degrees with fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds, decreasing moderate to fresh later.

Monday night

"Showers will retreat to coastal regions of the north and west overnight with long clear periods developing elsewhere. It will turn cold with lows of 2 to 6 degrees possibly bringing a spot of frost locally in the east where it will be coldest, in mostly light westerly winds.

Tuesday

"A good deal of dry weather with just well scattered showers, mainly in the north and west on Tuesday, with good bright and sunny periods also.

"Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly breezes. Overnight, showers will persist in coastal regions of the north and west with long clear periods developing elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees in mostly light westerly winds.

Wednesday

"Lots of dry and bright weather on Wednesday but with the continued chance of showers, especially in northern and western coastal counties.

"Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in moderate northwesterly breezes. Cold on Wednesday night with clear spells and isolated showers. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees.

Thursday

"Starting off mostly dry and bright on Thursday, however, cloudier conditions in Ulster and west Connacht will gradually extend eastwards through the afternoon with isolated showers.

"Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in light to moderate northwest to west winds.

Friday

"Plenty of cloud across the country on Friday with scattered patches of rain. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees."
