Galway, Clare, Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Wexford will all feel the impact of the gusts as the weather is set to take a turn after a lovely weekend.

The alert begins at midday on Wednesday and will be in effect until 6am on Thursday.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: ''Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night, southwest to west winds will reach mean wind speeds of 50 to 65 km/h, with gusts ranging 80 to 110km/h, higher in exposed locations.''

Though Monday started bright and breezy, it does not seem like that sunny weather will stick around for much longer.

Here's what Met Eireann are saying is coming up this week.

Monday night

''Patchy light rain and drizzle will clear eastwards early tonight. Remaining generally cloudy, with most areas becoming dry, however some drizzle will linger on southern coasts. Lows of 4 to 6 degrees with mist and fog patches forming in light to moderate southerly winds.''

''Tuesday will be cloudy and mostly dry to start, however rain will push into the west by midday, extending to all areas by late afternoon.

''The rain will be heavy at times, particularly in western areas. Moderate southwest winds increasing fresh to strong and gusty with the arrival of the rain, reaching near gale force near coasts, with gales at sea. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.''

Tuesday night

''Wet and windy to start on Tuesday night, with continued and at times heavy rain.

''However, rain will gradually clear eastwards through the night with showers following in the northwest.

''Clear spells will develop, mainly over the northern half of the country. Fresh to strong southerly winds early on will veer westerly and ease mainly moderate overnight. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees.''

Wednesday

''Mainly dry to begin Wednesday morning with some sunny spells but rain will push into the west and southwest through the morning, becoming widespread during the afternoon with heavy falls at times.

''Becoming quite windy also, as moderate southerly winds increase fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly through the day. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees.''
