Met Eireann issues 12-hour weather warning for 12 counties as miserable conditions hit

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning for 12 counties.

Those living in Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Louth, Westmeath and Meath are being urged to take notice of the wet conditions that are coming.

Met Éireann state that heavy rain is on the way with a risk of localised flooding in these areas.

The warning is valid from 6pm on Wednesday until 6am on Thursday, January 28.

As for the general forecast, tonight is set to bring patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle. There will also be mist and low cloud in parts of the country too.

As for Wednesday, the morning is set to be cloudy with showery rain in places.

Conditions are expected to deteriorate in the afternoon with a band of heavy rain moving into the southwest, extending countrywide through the afternoon and evening.

Heavy and thundery bursts are set to bring spot flooding with conditions becoming unsettled with spells of rain.

Wednesday night is shaping up to be wet and breezy with widespread rain, heavy at times, and spot flooding likely.

Those living in north Ulster might see sleet and hill snow too.
