Met Eireann issue wicked weekend forecast as heavy rain to batter country with two areas pinpointed

Batten down the hatches, because Ireland is set for a wicked weekend of weather.

The mini heatwave of just last week saw the country bathe in glorious sunshine accompanied by uncomfortably warm temperatures of 30C - a record for August.

But we've been brought right back down to earth since with things returning to average for the eighth month of the year.

Now, as we approach the end of August, we're going to go back to the typical Irish weather - heavy rain coupled with strong winds but staying incredibly humid.

That's according to the national forecaster, who have made their prediction for the weekend and it is fairly brutal.

Friday

It'll start fairly solid on Friday.

Met Éireann say it "will be a day of sunny spells and scattered showers. Showers will be most frequent in the north and west with the odd heavy one possible. Highest temperatures generally 17 to 21 degrees"

But Friday night sees things start to turn, with the national prediction reading: "It will turn cloudy overnight, and later a spell of showery rain will move in from the northwest. The rain will extend mainly over Ulster and Connacht by morning with some heavy falls at times and a chance of an isolated thunderstorm in the northwest. Mild and humid with temperatures not falling below 11 to 15 degrees"

Saturday

"Rain in the morning will likely be heavy in parts of the north and west." Met Eireann say,

"The rain will push southeastwards later in the morning, breaking up into showers and sunny spells as it does so. Highest temperatures of 16 degrees in the northwest to 22 degrees

"Mild and humid overnight with some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. Temperatures generally not falling below the low to mid-teens.

Sunday

"Sunday will be a "rather dull day as cloud builds from the southwest during the morning. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will gradually extend across much of the country through the day with some heavy falls possible. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees" the national forecaster says.
