The alert is valid from 4pm today, Thursday, June 25, until 9am tomorrow, Friday, June 26 .

The hottest it's ever been in Ireland is only 5C higher, when temperatures of 33.3C were recorded in Kilkenny Castle.

Incredibly, that 33C record was set almost exactly 133 years ago to the day, when the country - then still under Britain’s rule - sweltered in the mid thirties back on June 26 , 1887.

The pollen count is also tipped to be very high today, with Ireland Weather Alerts warning that there High UV risk today too.

As always when there's a weather warning, motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution and to slow down on wet roads.

Stay safe folks!
