Met Eireann issues new status orange weather warning as awful conditions to hit on Halloween

Met Eireann has issued two updated status yellow wind warnings for Halloween - and an orange marine warning as gale-force winds are set to blow across the country.

The yellow wind warnings are for Munster and a second for Galway and Mayo.

West to northwest winds will reach mean speeds of up 65km/hr with gusts of up to 90-110km/hr and higher gusts along coasts and exposed hills.

The weather warnings are in place for Munster until 2pm and until 10pm on Sunday in Galway and Mayo.

Meanwhile, the winds are set to continue into Monday, with a status yellow warning in place for Antrim, Down and Derry on Monday.

Here's the latest forecast from Met Eireann:

Sunday

"There will be good dry periods today but with showers or longer spells of rain moving through at times. It will be windy across southern and southwestern areas in the morning and the windy conditions will extend north to all regions during the afternoon and evening. Maximum temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees."

Sunday night

"Windy overnight with strong and gusty westerly winds and gales on some coasts. Scattered showers across the country with some longer spells of rain. Minimum temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees."

Monday

"Monday will be a fresh and breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers, the showers frequent in Atlantic coastal counties. More persistent rain will affect parts of north Ulster. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds."
