Met Eireann has issued an immediate flood warning for five counties as horrendous conditions hit.
A Status Yellow alert is currently in place until 9pm for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Limerick.
It reads: "Rain, heavy at times, will continue Tuesday evening leading to some river flooding and localised surface flooding."
Meanwhile, a number of other warnings have been issued as a spell of unsettled weather hits Ireland.
The whole country has been plunged under a wind warning, in a nationwide alert that says winds of up to 110km/h could hit in some areas amid a risk of coastal flooding where winds are onshore.
A status yellow gale warning – which will see southerly winds reaching gale force 8 or 9 on Tuesday – has been issued to all Irish coastal waters and the Irish sea.
Here are all the other warnings currently in force across the country:
1. Orange rain warning
Where: Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, Waterford
When: 8.06pm Monday until 9pm Tuesday
What: Very heavy rain on Monday night and Tuesday will likely cause further river flooding and surface water flooding. Rainfall totals of 50 to 80mm, higher in mountainous regions.
2. Yellow wind warning
Where: All of Ireland
When: 9pm Monday until 9pm Tuesday
What: South to southwest winds will reach mean wind speeds of 50 to 65km/h, with gusts of 90 to 110km/h. Where winds are onshore there is a risk of coastal flooding.
3. Yellow gale warning
Where: All Irish waters and the Irish Sea, becoming confined to western sea areas overnight
When: Issued 5am Tuesday
What: Southerly winds will reach gale force 8 or strong gale force 9 today (Tuesday) on all Irish coastal waters and on the Irish Sea, becoming confined to western sea areas overnight.
