Met Eireann issue immediate thunder and lightning warning for three counties

Met Eireann have issued an immediate thunder and lightning warning for three counties this afternoon.

Dublin, Louth and parts of Meath are under a yellow warning after a sudden burst of thunderstorms.

The warning is only valid until 3pm having been issued shortly before 2pm.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Scattered thunderstorms for a time this afternoon."

The forecaster had predicted some thundery bursts this afternoon but much of Dublin was rattled by the intense storms since after midday.

The weather should improve as the day goes on with clearer conditions moving in from the west.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Outbreaks of rain will continue to move eastwards across the country, with some heavy and thundery bursts.

"Cooler, fresher conditions, with bright spells and scattered showers following from the west. Maximum temperatures 17C to 23C, in light to moderate southerly winds, later veering southwesterly."
