Met Eireann issue cross-border weather alert to include Northern Ireland

Met Eireann have issued a cross-border weather alert to include Northern Ireland for the first time.

It is understood that the proposal was approved after being discussed with the UK Met Office.

The weather warning issued by the Irish national weather service is part of a series of upgrades that aims to ensure that commuters and cross-border travellers have access to the alerts.

Despite the latest update, the Met Office will continue to issue severe weather warnings for Northern Ireland.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "We are always keen to ensure the communication of our National Severe Weather Warning Service (NSWWS) is as accessible and understandable as possible.

"With this aim in mind the way we communicate severe weather warnings is constantly under review by ourselves and we may consider including Met Éireann warnings on our channels in future."
