Met Eireann issue 24-hour weather warning for one county as torrential rain to hit

Met Eireann has issued a 24-hour weather warning for Donegal with torrential rain set to hit.

The forecaster has put the status yellow warning in place from noon on Saturday until the same time on Sunday.

Weather chiefs say there is still some uncertainty regarding the warning and it will be updated again before noon on Saturday.

The forecaster said: "From noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday, 25 to 35 mm of rain possible. Some uncertainty. This warning will be updated before noon on Saturday."

Most of the country will however be dry on Saturday with decent conditions in the south.

The forecaster added: "Saturday will be dry over much of the country with good sunny spells in Munster and Leinster. It will be cloudier further north with showers in the northwest during the morning and persistent rain developing in north Ulster in the late afternoon.

"Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with freshening southwest winds, increasing strong and gusty along western and northern coasts in the late afternoon and evening."
