Met Eireann issue 14-hour snow and ice warning for two counties as freezing spell hits after Storm Bella

Met Eireann has issued a snow and ice warning for two counties on Sunday with freezing conditions expected.

The forecaster is expecting the North West of the country to be badly hit with chilly weather with the warning coming into effect for Donegal and Leitrim from 6am on Sunday morning.

And the national forecaster is expecting some potentially heavy snowfall with the alert lasting until 8pm on Sunday night.

The warning reads: "Wintry showers during Sunday with some accumulations possible. Risk of icy stretches on untreated surfaces."

All of Northern Ireland will also be under snow and ice warnings throughout Sunday with most of the Republic not expected to get such heavy snow.

The forecast for the whole country for Sunday reads: "Tomorrow will be a very cold and blustery day with sunny spells and showers, some of sleet, snow or hail.

"Showers will mainly affect the north and west during the morning but they will become more widespread through the afternoon. Longer and heavier spells of rain will develop in the west during the evening. It will be a breezy day with fresh and gusty westerly winds and highest afternoon temperatures of just 2 to 5 degrees."
