Met Eireann is looking for your help to name the storms of 2020

Every year, Ireland is battered by storm after storm and they all have curious names.

Many wonder who chooses the name - and it's none other than the public!

Met Eireann teams up with the UK Met Office every year to make an A to Z list of names.

Now they're asking for ideas and you have a chance to tell them what you think should be chosen.

Met Eireann said: "Today we launch our new call for storm names. If you have ever wanted to name a storm, now is your chance!

"To send your suggestion either:

  • Reply to this Facebook post
  • Use the hashtag #IrishStormNames on Twitter
  • Email us at stormnames@met.ie
  • Or write to us at Evelyn Cusack, Met Éireann, Glasnevin Hill, Dublin 9, D09 Y921 and feel free to draw us a weather picture!

"The closing date for entries is Friday August 9 and we will be revealing the new storm names on Monday September 2."

Best of luck!
