Met Eireann Ireland weather with 'heavy' 12-hour warning issued as big change hits

Met Eireann has confirmed a 12-hour weather warning for several parts of the country as a big change hits Ireland.

Today in Dublin will be cloudy and misty with patchy light rain and drizzle as persistent rain comes in through the evening.

Temperatures of 9C will remain the same overnight but it will become more wet and breezy as the night goes on.

Rain will turn heavy at times which will give a risk of spot flooding in the capital.

Met Eireann add: "The rain will become more showery in nature towards morning. Relatively mild with lowest temperatures of 8 or 9 degrees. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds will veer southwesterly later in the night."

As mentioned, that status yellow, rainfall warning is in place for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Louth, Westmeath and Meath.

Met Eireann warn of "heavy rain with a risk of localised flooding" in an alert valid from 6pm on Wednesday until 6am on Thursday morning.

Here's how the next few days are looking according to Met Eireann:

Thursday: "Tomorrow morning will be mostly cloudy with showery outbreaks of rain. It will become drier for the afternoon with some bright or sunny intervals breaking through, but further rain will move in from the southwest during the evening. Highest afternoon temperatures of 9 or 10 degrees, with moderate westerly winds easing and backing southerly.

Thursday night: "Rain will continue in the northeast for a time early Thursday night, but will clear northeastwards overnight leaving scattered showers and some clear spells. It will be breezy in the south and west with fresh southwesterly winds, but winds will be light to moderate elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees."

Friday: "It will be generally cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain. These will become more isolated during the afternoon, allowing some sunny spells to develop. Turning cloudier in the southwest however, with rain arriving here later in the afternoon, becoming more persistent and occasionally heavy through the evening. Light to moderate westerly or variable winds will back east to southeast and freshen later. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees."
