Met Eireann Ireland weather warns of 'hazardous snow' conditions in vital alert but big change coming

Tuesday in Dublin will see a wet and breezy start to the day with the possibility of snow over higher ground.

Drier weather will extend to most areas remaining cloudy with patchy mist and drizzle and temperature highs of 10C.

Tonight will continue to see patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle with mist and low cloud too in light breezes but temperatures will remain high in the capital at 6-9C.

And while wintry weather remains this week, there is also the prospect of some thunder and flooding in the coming days in Dublin as the weather takes a turn for the worst.

Bands of heavy rain will move in from tomorrow onwards leading to some treacherous conditions on roads.

Elsewhere, a status yellow snow/ice warning is still in place for parts of Ireland until 9am this morning.

Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal and Leitrim will see "falls of sleet and snow with icy and hazardous conditions".

The outlook for the week is unsettled with cold and wintry weather at times but remaining somewhat mild throughout say Met Eireann.

Here's how the next few days are looking with wintry showers and thunder promised for Dublin.

Tomorrow: "Mostly cloudy on Wednesday with showery rain in places. Later in the afternoon a band of heavy rain will move into the southwest and will extend up to Dublin by the evening. Some heavy and possibly thundery bursts will bring spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees Celsius generally, in light to moderate southeast breezes."

Thursday: "Wintry rain will become confined mid-morning with just well scattered falls elsewhere and some brighter spells locally. However, further falls of rain will move up from the southwest with heavy bursts later in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees Celsius, but cooler for Ulster with highs of 3 to 7 degrees Celsius."
