Met Eireann horror weather change after hottest heatwave day of year

Met Eireann is predicting that the weather is set to take a horror turn after the hottest day of the year and heatwave forecast.

There will be showery outbreaks of rain from Wednesday as an ominous weather event tracks from north Spain and France.

The change might even see spot flooding with rain turning heavy at times despite the temperatures remaining high at 20C.

Carlow Weather's Alan O'Reilly mirrored this forecast.

He said: "A lot of lightning in parts of North Spain and South France at present.

"The low system will track toward us with a risk of thundery downpours here on Wednesday."

Here's what Met Eireann are saying for the first days of June:

Today: "It will be largely dry with spells of sunshine and the chance of just an isolated shower. Warm with highest temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees in a light to moderate easterly breeze."

Tomorrow: "Becoming mainly cloudy tomorrow with showery outbreaks of rain spreading from the south during the afternoon and turning heavy at times, bringing the risk of spot flooding. Rain will clear northwards towards evening, with dry spells developing. Highest temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees in moderate to fresh east to southeast winds."

Thursday: "A brighter day on Thursday with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, most frequent over Munster and Connacht. A cooler day generally with highest temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees, warmest over Ulster, in moderate southerly winds."

Friday: "Largely dry with sunny spells to start, apart from showery rain in the southwest. Outbreaks of rain will become widespread through the morning and afternoon, but some eastern areas will hold dry. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds."

Saturday: "It will bring a mix of scattered showers and sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees over the northwestern half of the country, but warmer in the best of the sunny spells further southeast with highest temperatures of 17 to 19 degrees."

Further outlook: "A mix of scattered showers and sunny spells for Sunday and early next week, with temperatures generally in the mid to high teens."
