Met Eireann Ireland weather: Heavy rain and thunderstorms to continue before huge temperature change

Dubliners might want to keep an umbrella handy with Met Eireann predicting more thunderstorms and a risk of flooding in some parts of Dublin today.

A Status Yellow rain and thunderstorm warning will remain in place until midday today.

Meanwhile, temperatures are set to drop over the next few days as the sweltering heatwave ends with a bang.

Here is the forecast for the rest of the week:

Today

"Further heavy showers developing today, with a risk of isolated thunderstorms and localised flooding. While it will be mostly cloudy there will be a few bright spells also. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees in mostly light southeasterly breezes."

Tonight

"Mostly cloudy with scattered showers continuing overnight. Another very mild and humid night with temperatures not falling below 14 to 16 degrees. Some mist and fog will set in later in the night in mostly light variable breezes, falling calm at times.

Tomorrow

"Mostly cloudy with scattered showers, possibly turning heavy towards evening. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees, in light to moderate westerly winds.

Saturday

"Feeling fresher with a mix of sunny spells and just well scattered patchy showers mostly over Ulster and Atlantic coastal counties. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees, in a light westerly breeze.

"Mostly dry with clear spells and just some well scattered patches of rain or drizzle on Saturday night. Overnight lows of 9 to 13 degrees, mist and fog patches will develop once again in light northerly or variable breezes.

Sunday

"Sunny spells however cloud will increase at times during the day bringing the chance of patchy mist and drizzle at times. Feeling autumnal, in light variable breezes, with highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees.

"On Sunday night there will be good clear spells however there will be some low cloud at times leading to some patchy drizzle. Overnight lows of 8 to 13 degrees, mist and fog patches developing also in light east to southeast breezes."
