Met Eireann Ireland weather forecast warns of heavy rain and flooding

Met Eireann's latest forecast predicts heavy rain and flooding today and for the rest of the week.

Conditions are looking "unsettled" for the next few days according to the latest reports.

Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather warned that a number of current weather charts are showing the country being battered by rain today and tomorrow.

He said: "Accumulation of rainfall over next 72 hours from latest ECWMF weather model. You can see over 50mm is possible in South, Southeast and East. A very wet few days ahead.

"A few very wet days ahead and weekend unsettled but weather trends continue to a good chance of more settled and cooler weather next week."

Met Eireann's latest forecast backs up that theory. Here's what they expect in Dublin.

Today

It will be mostly cloudy and wet with spells of rain, heavy at times with a risk of localised flooding. Highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees in fresh and gusty southwest winds, strong at times.

Tonight

There will be further outbreaks of showery rain, heavy at times bringing a continued risk of localised flooding. Temperatures generally not falling below 12 to 14 degrees.

Mainly fresh and gusty southerly winds will ease towards morning.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow, the heavy rain will clear during the morning. However, further showers or spells of rain will to push up from the southwest during the day with a risk of isolated thunderstorms.

But sunny spells will break through later in the morning and for the afternoon with drier intervals developing at times. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest breezes.
