Met Eireann Ireland weather forecast shows massive drop in temperature

Met Eireann have forecast a sudden drop in temperature this week.

It might be time to get the electric blankets ready as the cold nights are quickly making a comeback.

The overall temperature is set to drop in a return to far more seasonable weather after balmy conditions late last week.

Mist and fog will clear today to make way for some sunny spells.

Highest temperatures of 14 or 15 degrees during the day before they plummet to as low as 4 degrees tonight.

Tonight will be dry with some misty spells.

Here is the forecast for the rest of the week.

Tomorrow: "Most areas will stay dry on Tuesday but it will be a cloudier day with some light rain or drizzle in parts of Ulster, extending into north Leinster at times. The best of brighter weather will be in southern counties. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in a light northwesterly or variable breeze.

Tomorrow night: "Dry on Tuesday night, apart from a little drizzle in the far north. There will be a mix of cloud and clear spells, clearest in the south. Some mist and fog patches forming which will be dense in places. Lows of 4 to 9 degrees.

Wednesday: "Wednesday will see early mist and fog clearing to give a mix of cloud and some bright or sunny spells. Dry for much of the country with just passing showers along northern and northwestern coasts. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in light west to southwest breezes.

Thursday: "Much of Thursday looks like it will be mostly cloudy but dry in many areas apart from patchy light rain or drizzle, mainly in the west and north. On Thursday night patchy rain will likely affect northern areas. This should die out on Friday with some brighter spells developing after a dull start.

Weekend: "Current indications suggest that there will be light rain at times over the coming weekend with dry periods too."
