Ireland is set for a wet and windy lead into the weekend with blustery showers to strong and gusty southwesterly winds this morning.

There’ll be a gradual change to drier conditions with some sunny spells will spread from the west through the afternoon and evening as winds veer westerly and slowly moderate. Temperatures will range from 12 to 14 degrees.

A forecaster said: "From late this afternoon and overnight, south to southwest, will occasionally reach mean speeds of 45 to 65 km/hr with gusts of 90 to 110 km/hr, strongest in the west."

Here is a more detailed look at the forecast:

Tonight

Largely dry tonight with a mix of cloud and clear spells and just a chance of some lingering drizzle. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees. Some mist patches will form in light to moderate westerly breezes.

Tomorrow

A dry day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 12 or 13 degrees with light westerly breezes backing southerly through the afternoon.

The night will be mostly cloudy with plenty of dry weather along with a little patchy drizzle. There will be mist and some pockets of fog in places.

Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees.

Sunday

It is primarily cloudy on Sunday with little rain and drizzle, mainly in western and northwestern parts, where it will become more persistent later.

It will be mainly dry further east. Mild with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.

Rain and drizzle will spread from the northwest overnight, with a clearance following into the northwest in the night.

Lowest temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees.
