Met Eireann Ireland weather forecast big change after warning with hottest day of year possible

Following several weather warnings over the last few days, Met Eireann is forecasting some big changes this week.

Ireland will see a sunburst over the next couple of days as we finally get a return to summer temperatures.

The highest the celsius will get by Friday is 17C with highs of 20C even possible for this weekend.

Weather Alerts Ireland said: "A high pressure system is expected to situate to the South of Ireland in the Atlantic.

"This will keep low pressure systems at bay and keep the weather mainly settled and dry.

"The latest evening models are showing 20 degrees expected over the weekend. The GFS model is showing much warmer temperatures in the following week."

Here's what Met Eireann are predicting for the week ahead:

Today: "A mostly dry start to the morning with good sunny spells. Through the morning, scattered showers will develop with some longer spells of thundery rain in the afternoon, but showers will ease during the evening. Breezy in moderate to fresh northwest winds. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees."

Tomorrow: "Good sunny spells with well scattered showers. Becoming mostly dry through the evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly breezes."

Wednesday: "A mainly dry day with just patchy rain in the southwest gradually clearing and just light showers occurring in the northwest. Some good sunny spells too, the best of which will be in the morning and evening. Feeling rather pleasant with highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in light breezes."

Thursday: "Some uncertainty in the forecast, but current indications suggest that it will be a dry and bright to start for much of Ulster and Leinster. However, rain and cloud in Connacht and Munster will gradually extend over the country through the day. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh, southeasterly winds."

Friday: "Rain will clear from much of the country during the morning, though it could linger along eastern coastal counties for much of the day. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees in mainly light variable breezes. Becoming mostly dry overnight with lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees."

Weekend: "A good deal of dry weather for the weekend. Temperatures continuing to increase with highs in the high teens generally."
