Met Eireann Ireland weather as urgent 24-hour warning in place but big change on way

Met Eireann has a 24-hour weather warning in place for two counties but a big change is on the way after the rain passes.

In Dublin, Tuesday will be a cloudy start with outbreaks of rain becoming drier for a time through the afternoon but more rain will move in with temperatures of 5C towards the end of the day.

There will be patchy rain at first which will turn more persistent overnight with night time temperatures of 8-10C higher than the day time.

As mentioned, a status yellow, rainfall warning has been in place for Mayo and Sligo from Monday 12pm and remains until today at 12pm.

Met Eireann warn: "Persistent and occasionally heavy rainfall may cause some localised flooding."

For the first time in several weeks, temperatures will be in the double figures this week with generally dry weather promised for the country.

Here's how Met Eireann are predicting this week will look:

Tomorrow : "Generally cloudy Wednesday with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Some dry interludes will develop through the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 10 or 11 degrees in moderate southwesterly breezes. The rain will push eastwards overnight with scattered showers in the west by morning. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees in mostly light southerly breezes, later veering northwesterly and moderating."

Thursday : "Rain will clear the east through the morning with good sunny spells developing during the afternoon and isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees in moderate northwesterly breezes. Frost will return on Thursday night under clear skies and light variable winds, lowest temperatures of between - 1 and +2 degrees with some mist and fog patches forming also. Cloud will increase from the wet towards dawn."

Friday : "Increasingly cloudy with patchy light rain or drizzle mainly affecting Atlantic coastal counties. Afternoon high temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds, freshening on Atlantic coasts later."

Further outlook : "Current indications are for a spell of wet and windy weather to cross the country on Friday night with blustery showers on Saturday and Sunday."
