Met Eireann Ireland weather as 'significant snow accumulations' confirmed in two day wintry shock

Met Eireann has confirmed 'significant snow accumulations' as Dublin is hit with a two day wintry shock this week.

Sunday night will see "wintry showers affecting east Leinster" with further "frost and ice developing on Sunday night with scattered showers in eastern counties with temperatures ranging from -3 to 0C".

Next week is forecast to turn very cold with widespread frost predicted by Met Eireann.

They are saying that "falls of snow are expected, especially in Leinster, with significant accumulations possible".

This morning will be clear with dry and bright spells for a time alongside sunny spells.

Further showers will extend from the southwest leaving some heavy and prolonged rain as highest temperatures of 9C drop a few degrees overnight.

Wednesday night will be rather cloudy and damp with further showers and temperatures of 3C remaining in place until Thursday morning.

Here's how the next few days are looking according to Met Eireann:

Tomorrow: "Further showers on Thursday but also with some sunny spells. Maximum temperatures ranging 5 to 8 degrees and feeling quite cold as a northerly breeze develops. A cold night is expected with minimum temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees. A moderate northerly breeze will bring some showers to north Connacht and Ulster but it will be generally dry elsewhere with some frost."

Friday: "A cold northerly air-flow is expected to bring a mix of sunny spells and showers on Friday, some turning wintry over high ground. Highest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees. Clear spells and scattered showers of rain or hail overnight. A risk of frost and ice in sheltered spots with lowest temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees."

Saturday: "Another chilly day on Saturday with sunny spells and some showers, the showers becoming largely confined to eastern coastal counties later in the day. Maximum temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in moderate north or northeast breezes. Frost and ice developing in many areas on Saturday night with scattered rain or hail showers affecting parts of east Leinster and north Ulster. Minimum temperatures of -2 to +3 degrees."
