It will be dry at first today with a mix of sunny spells and variable cloud.

But more cloud will develop during the afternoon followed by a band of showery rain spreading from the west.

The rain will ease in the evening with clear spells and isolated showers expected. Temperatures will be 11 degrees or 12 degrees.

Tonight will see a mix of clear spells and scattered showers which may merge into longer spells of rain in the west later in the night. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds.

The rest of the week will turn unsettled and cold with "some heavy blustery showers bringing the risk of some wintry precipitation at times", according to a Met Eireann forecaster.

"Westerly winds will be fresh and gusty at first but will ease through the night. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees.

SATURDAY: "Scattered showers and some hazy sunny spells the best of which will be in the southeast where it will stay mostly dry. The showers will be most frequent in the west and northwest.
