Met Eireann Ireland October forecast shows rainfall warnings and higher temperatures on the way

Ireland's weather is set to be unusually warm in October with two weeks of above average temperature forecast.

The country is feeling the cold this week after a return to more autumnal weather but unseasonable warmth could be back in little over a week.

From next Monday, weather chiefs are expecting the lift in temperatures although there is likely to be plenty of rain around too.

But that's after the rest of this week continues to be cool thanks to low pressure which is bringing in a "polar maritime air mass".

Here's what to expect from Met Eireann's long-range forecast;

Week 1: October 1 - October 7

The first week of October begins with unsettled weather with low pressure dominant over the north of the country. Temperatures will be around one degree below average.

More rainfall than average for the first week of October nationwide, while rainfall warnings are a possibility.

Week 2: October 8 - October 14

More settled weather will move in for the second week. A weak signal of high pressure is forecasted to be dominant over the south of the country that will influence most of the country.

The south and east will enjoy drier than normal conditions while the north and the west experience more rainfall than normal. Temperatures will be normal for the time of year.

Week 3: October 15 - October 21

High pressure looks set to dominate over central Europe as well as southeast Ireland. Rainfall amounts will likely be normal, with temperatures average for the time of year, or slightly above.

Week 4: October 22 - October 28

There is no strong signal for low or high pressure in the fourth week of October. Western areas will have below normal rainfall for the time of year with temperatures likely to be normal for the time of year.
