Met Eireann Ireland forecast dry day with temperatures set to plummet for Christmas week

Met Eireann have forecast a dry and mild day around the country but a big change in temperatures is coming next week.

Today will be "dry and mostly cloudy with occasional periods of sunshine" and highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.

Tonight will remain dry and some frost is possible.

Met Eireann's forecast reads: "Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees, a little colder locally under clearer skies with a touch of frost possible.

"Southeast to east breezes will be light to moderate. There is a chance of some fog patches forming in parts of the northern half of the country."

The dry weather will remain on Saturday and Sunday, with highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees both days.

But heading into next week, the weather will turn colder.

On Monday and Tuesday, there will be highest temperatures from 5 to 8 degrees.

The forecast reads: "Turning colder on Tuesday night with frost likely as temperatures decrease to around freezing.

"The mainly dry weather is expected continue through much of Wednesday. A gradual breakdown of the high pressure is then likely to follow, with signs of rain moving in from the southwest. Possibly turning colder too."
