Met Eireann forecasts sudden drop in temperatures as change in weather to come this weekend

With a recent improvement in the weather, some Irish people might be forgiven that the best weeks of Spring are ahead and while the next few days are set to be a mixed bag with cloudy and dry spells, the weekend is expected to be different as the temperature drops.

While this afternoon will be dry and clear, it's going to be quite chilly at night with fog and frost forming. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees are expected too.

Similar conditions will prevail on Wednesday with sunshine and dry spells expected but Met Eireann has said that the day will turn colder with a chance of some rain over the weekend.

Latest Met Eireann Ireland weather forecast as 'hazardous' warning issued

Thursday is shaping up to be cloudy and chilly for most of the country. Thankfully, it's set to be mainly dry with only a few light showers about, mainly in the east and south.

However, Met Eireann has said that things will take a turn on Thursday evening which will be "quite cold with minimum temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees with frost developing where skies remain clear."

At present, the weekend is shaping up to be "more mixed with an increased chance of rain and showers."

On Friday, there will be a few light showers in the far southwest but elsewhere it will be dry with a mix of cloud and bright spells.

The bulk of the country will remain dry on Friday night but there is the chance of some patchy rain in the far southwest later in the night.

It's set to be cold with minimum temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees expected.

If you're living on the west coast, expect a spell of patchy on Saturday but it's set to fizzle out as it moves eastwards over the country.

Sadly, the early indications suggest there'll be some showery rain but good dry periods also, the best of these across the eastern half of the country.
