Met Eireann forecasts significant weather change as 'cooler airmass' arrives with a bang

Met Eireann has forecast a significant weather change on Wednesday as a "cooler airmass" arrives with a bang.

Ireland’s weather will be in a battleground zone between the Atlantic and Europe for the week, with the airmass leading to a spell of bad conditions.

The low pressure of the Atlantic, combined with the high pressure over Europe, will cause rain-bearing frontal systems to become slow-moving, which is bad news for Ireland.

It means the country will be battered with a spell of bad weather, which can be clearly seen from the forecast for the week.

There will be heavy rain and sunny spells today with highs of 14C.

It will be drier in the north throughout the day with showers holding mainly towards the east and west.

Tuesday will start out rather cloudy in the east with a little lingering drizzle and mist, sunnier conditions elsewhere will extend countrywide.

On Tuesday night outbreaks of rain in the west will become heavy and persistent and spread eastwards overnight.

Wednesday will see spot flooding as rain turns heavy and persistent during the day.

Met Eireann added: "The rain will clear by Wednesday night and under clear skies temperatures will drop significantly in a much cooler airmass than recent days, down to between plus 2C and 5C with a grass frost possibly developing."

Frost is predicted with temperatures dropping due to the "cooler airmass".

Thursday will be a mostly dry day with sunny spells at first, but it will become cloudy later.

A moderate southwest wind will freshen by Friday, when another spell of heavy rain is expected.

The weather is expected to continue unsettled into the weekend.
