Met Eireann forecasts exact dates of four days of sunshine - before autumn arrives

Met Eireann has predicted four days of warm temperatures next week for Irish people to enjoy before autumn comes.

Meteorologists are predicting highs of 23C on Monday and Tuesday, with sunny spells to come.

Wednesday and Thursday should also stay dry and warm as high pressure weather passes over the country.

Irish people are cautiously optimistic that there could be some late summer sun.

A status yellow rain and flood warning has been issued for Galway, Mayo and Kerry on Friday.

Experts have warned of "heavy and possibly thundery falls of rain at times on Thursday night and on Friday with a risk of localised flooding."

The alert took effect at 1am on Friday morning and is in place until 4pm on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, there is a status yellow thunderstorm and rain warning for Leinster, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan from 12am to 8pm.

Met Eireann has said that conditions are set to drastically improve by next week with drier weather expected.

Met Eireann say there is a strong signal for mainly dry, settled conditions developing in the second half of the period (from Monday to Thursday), as an area of high pressure builds to the north of Ireland.

Temperatures are expected to be a little above normal.

They have forecast sunshine and higher temperatures for the country to enjoy similar temperatures from Monday until Thursday in particular.

Monday will be a mainly dry day with good sunny spells with temperatures to hit 23 degrees.

Mist and fog will morning will quickly clear on Tuesday allowing for an overall dry and sunny day with just isolated showers.

Temperatures are set to hit 23 degrees on Tuesday.

Wednesday will see scattered showers developing with sunny spells.

Current indications are for it to continue being mainly dry on Thursday and Friday, with the chance of light isolated or scattered showers.
