Met Eireann forecasts end to scorching weather as brutal conditions arrive

After a long spell of sunny skies and hot weather it looks as though the country is set for a dramatic change with brutal conditions arriving into next week.

Met Eireann has warned that a spate of heavy showers is set to hit early in the week and continue throughout.

While there will still be some sunny spells and temperatures hitting the low 20s heavy showers are set to hit in the west particularly with gusty winds also arriving.

Unfortunately it looks as though the poor weather may continue into next weekend.

A forecaster said :"Sunday, will be cloudy overall with occasional bright spells. Showers will become widespread by afternoon and some will be heavy with the risk of thunderstorms and localised flooding.

"Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, lowest in the west and southwest and highest in the east, in a light to moderate southwesterly breeze veering westerly.

"A mix of cloud and clear spells as showers clear the east and north during the night but a further spell of showery rain will move into western and southwestern areas towards dawn. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest winds, fresher along Atlantic coasts.

"Sunny spells and scattered showers to start with more prolonged rain moving into southern coastal counties towards Monday evening.

"Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, coolest in the west. Light to moderate southerly winds will back northerly in the northwest later in the day.

"Rain in the south and east will quickly clear in the morning on Tuesday with a brief dry spell there before the rain in the northwest extends across the country, followed by showers later in the day.

"Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees generally in moderate to occasionally fresh westerly winds. Scattered showers will continue overnight with more prolonged rain possible in the southwest. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees.

"A cool day on Wednesday with good sunny spells and further showers, turning heavy at times. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees in mostly moderate westerly winds.

"Showers will develop once again on Thursday morning. However, it will become drier and brighter during the afternoon with a mix of cloud and hazy spells of sunshine. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly breezes.

Looking to the weekend they added: "Continuing rather unsettled with showers or further spells of rain at times. Daytime highs will stay mostly in the mid to high teens, possibly reaching to low 20s on Saturday.
