Met Eireann forecast sees September bringing stormy weather with southern counties in for worst of conditions

Met Eireann’s predictions for the month of September seem to show a farewell to ‘back-to-school’ sunshine as more unsettled conditions are coming our way.

The latest weekly breakdown shows what we’re in for from Friday, September 3rd onwards, and while the rain and stormy weather will rear its head regularly, there are some rare bouts of sunshine expected too.

From September 3-9, high pressure is expected to move away from us as low pressure in the Atlantic slowly approaches Ireland.

“This low is forecast to be slow-moving to the west of Ireland on Sunday and Monday, with further depressions developing in the Atlantic expected to affect our weather later in the period.”

The Irish forecaster has predicted that conditions will be more unsettled than we have seen in recent weeks - with heavy rain and above-average accumulations expected across most of the country.

The southern counties are in for the worst of these conditions, while winds are expected to be stronger in these areas as well.

However, temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal, but there is potential for weather warnings during this period.

Then, up until September 16, rainfall will continue to be above average for the time of year, and warnings can’t be ruled out at this point.

Southern areas will once again experience the brunt of this bad weather, with the wettest conditions expected there.

Temperatures will be normal in this period for the time of year.

Between September 17 and 23, this low pressure that was dominating up until now will begin to dissipate with conditions becoming more settled for the time being.

Rainfall averages will drop below the average, and temperatures will settle around the normal range, while warnings are a lot less likely.

Heading towards the end of the month then, the pressure will increase further, meaning settled conditions will be sticking around.

Although forecasts this far off are subject to changes, current predictions show the likelihood of warnings is low, and “there are indications that temperatures will remain normal for the time of year.”
